BIO
JOHANNA SIPILÄ
Johanna Sipilä is a Helsinki based artist and a painter. She has the Master of Fine Arts degree from the Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki 2007. Before that she graduated as a painter from Free Art School Helsinki 2001. She has held several solo exhibitions and taken part in group exhibitions in Finland and abroad and worked in artist residencies around the world.
Sipilä lived and worked in Tallinn years 2010-2014 taking active part in the local art life. She held exhibitions, did performances, was part of a local circus-perofrmance-group and organised artist-driven cultural exchange between Estonia and Finland. After returning to Finland Sipilä started working at the island of Harakka at Harakka Artist´s House in Helsinki.
She is a member of the association maintaining Galleria Huuto, Finnish Painters´ Association, Helsinki Artists' Association, Harakka Artists´ Association and Nuori Voima Writers´ Association.
Johanna Sipilä´s paintings are physical and intense, with strength, joy of life and primitivity. She´s interested in breaking
the boundaries of painting and trying out new ways to use painting.
A good example of this are the animated painting videos she is currently developing. (www.johannasipila.com)
